Luminaria is inside the Inn at Loretto. The restaurant is done with a southwest décor. Lighting is complemented by candles on the walls. The restaurant is very conversation friendly. Seating choices are booths or tables. Outdoor dining is available on a shaded patio. We arrived a few minutes before our reservation time and were seated immediately. We found the seating material used in the booth to be very comfortable. Table service was prompt and friendly. Jeannie our server provided follow up though out the meal. My choice was the Chimayo Chile-Honey Glazed Salmon with Cilantro Pesto, Lavender Corn Pudding, Slow Braised Onion and Tomato Jam. The fish was cooked medium with a nice crust. The glaze added a wonderful sweet peppery flavor. The corn pudding was smooth and tasty. My wife ordered the New York Strip Asado cooked with cipollini onion, green garlic and thyme potatoes in a pinot noir sauce. The steak was prepared well done as ordered. The pinot noir sauce added outstanding rich flavor to the steak. The potatoes were crisp outside and tender inside

The good news: The waitstaff, although a bit understaffed (the waiter also serves as the bartender), was friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable about the menu. The restaurant's decor is beautiful - Southwestern, hand plastered walls, and, on a wintry night, with seating next to a large kiva fireplace, romantic. If you come during the summer, the outdoor patio looked like a winner. The tables and seating aren't crowded together so you're not sitting elbow to elbow with your neighbor. The service was never rushed (but never particularly fast) which was just right for a leisurely dinner. The wine list was fairly extensive with many wine by the glass options. The complimentary chocolate truffles at the end of the meal melted in our mouths. The bad news: while the food was well presented and well prepared it somehow lacked flavor. The ingredients were all first rate but the food was a bit soulless. Three types of house bread (chili pumpkin seed biscotti, blue corn muffin, and farm bread) were a bit dry although the butter was soft and delicious. The roasted beef marrow appetizer was flavorful but underseasoned. The Diver Sea Scallops and the Sous Vide Kurobuta Pork were good but not great. The scallops were tender and the pork moist and firm but both were underseasoned and were indistinguishable from any other decent restaurant. On the bright side -The orange chocolate cake was first rate with soft, creamy chocolate mousse and slightly tart blood orange syrup. All in all, however, for the price I expected better in terms of enjoying more memorable food.

4.5 stars really, the hotel is very nice at least the lobby, the staff are VERY friendly, but as I am from chicago gauge this from that perspective i.e. friendly but big city. Eating Lobster Tacos and a Wagyu burger with Green Chile and chipotle aioli

Sorry, I expected better. My girlfriend and I went for dinner over Labor Day. Although they offer patio dining, they would not allow my small dog on the paito. Strike one. The service is A-1. The restaurant has a great wine list and we had some local champagne (Gruet) with our meal. Good pick. My girlfriend had the foie gras. Bad choice. Served on a plate, under a pancake (there were two pancakes, but only one slice of foie gras: why?), and not particularly browned or tasty, with blueberries in syrup on top. Truly uninspired. I had the bison filet sous vide and was likewise disappointed with the absolute failure of the chef to match the food with an appropriate side. The bison was tender and very mild in taste, but was paired with cottage style potatos cooked with chiles hot enough to prevent one from experiencing the bison. On top of it all, the tables are meant to be illuminated by lights mounted on the patio umbrella poles. Ours did not function through the appetizer, so our food was not illuminated (there were no luminarias) until the hotel "engineer" came out and replaced the bulb. In sum, very nice ambiance and service, but the food doesn't measure up.

Best Chilean sea bass I've ever had. My husband loved award winning tortilla soup and sea food paella. Lovely atmosphere too even though we had to sit inside due to rain. Highly recommend!

Absolutely LOVE the decor!!!! Subtle, crisp and clean. Here for a quick drink, already had brunch...so, all I can say is the food 'looks' delicious... Drinks are good...but honestly, it's the decor that won me over. Will have to have a sit down dinner next time I visit this lovely place called Santa Fe.

We loved the pumpkin risotto with the sea bass. Also the hostess was very sweet, retrieving us from the lounge which was at the opposite end of the hotel, when our table was ready. Very personal.

Ate here twice on a recent trip to Santa Fe. Fresh local ingredients, and sous vide meats... What's not to like? The service was great, and everything was prepared really well... 4 stars, because, while I did not really think the food was exceptional, I could tell that it was very well prepared, and blame myself for not liking beans, corn and yogurt very much... Also, considered dropping to 3 stars because the Salmon Tar Tar I had, was seared Salmon, but again... I felt the food was very well prepared, but just wasn't made for my flavor profile. Or was trying to show me new things...

Stopped in for lunch on a snowy day. Valet parking was a plus due to the weather. We were greeted immediately and the service was great. Sat next to the fireplace which was perfect for the weather. I highly recommend the tortilla soup!

Just stopped by the inn and spa at loretto for a quick overnight stay halfway between Denver, CO and Scottsdale, AZ. Really glad we stopped here. Food was amazing and service was equally as good. Aimee our server was very attentive and also gave us advice on where to go in Santa Fe on a Tuesday night.

Service was super slow, and it didn't help to overhear the team hanging out by the reservation desk in Spanish about how unhappy they were It seemed like this crew needed a manager. Great food, but really bad service. So slow that my pumpkin pecon spicy waffles were super cold by the time they made it to me. Great bowl of fresh and delicious pasteries, so get those to go and eat 'em in your room.

Tucked away on the far side of the Inn at Loretto, Baleen has apparently been established for years, but even many long-time Santa Fe residents have never heard of it. Typically, when I think of a luxurious and creative dining experience in Santa Fe, I turn to The Compound, on Canyon Road. Chef Mark Kiffin there chooses fabulous ingredients and integrates them creatively, creating delicate and delicious flavors in every course. But Baleen caught me by surprise. Recommended by a friend who went there a few weeks before, I tried Baleen a couple of weeks ago and was blown away. Going there for my wife's birthday, we were seated on their lovely outdoor patio, just as the sky was painting itself with the colors of sunset past the surrounding gardens and the lovely adobe "bell" tower of the hotel past the garden. If you go during warm weather - definitely insist on an outside table. In the center of the patio is a roofed area (with open sides) and lovely and delicate chandeliers hanging over the candlelit tables. Dim white Christmas lights around the perimeter of the roofed structure made it all that more romantic. At first, they sat us at a 2-top table near the entrance to the patio...just a few feet from where a musician was setting up to provide (amplified) music for the dinner hour. Let's be clear up front here - we loved our experience at Baleen and would go back in an instant. We did have just two little nits about our experience there. 1) After seating us at the table, we immediately felt like ours was one of the most exposed tables and that we would be WAY too close to the musician. We told the manager/maitre d' about our concern and he said, to his credit, "no problem", and proceeded to move us to a different table. The table to which he moved us was a big round 6-top, and they removed the other four place settings...but this table was (a) right next to the place where waiters go in and out of the kitchen, (b) right next to a humming AC unit and (c) was so big for the two of us that it felt like we were the last ones left at a wedding reception table after the other guests had left...not very cozy or intimate. Since this was supposed to be a special dinner, we decided to try one more time. Again, to his credit, the manager was very gracious in expressing his understanding of our concern and went out of his way to give us one of the nicer tables under the romantically-lit roofed-area. So we ended up at a great table, but our nit was that we had to push them a bit to get it. 2) The second nit is that while it's nice to have live music sometimes as a background soundtrack to a lovely meal, this music was a tad on the loud side (not unbearably or disruptively so, but it could have been more subtle. The musician, who sounded amazingly like James Taylor, was very capable and performed well, but some strictly-instrumental classical guitar might have been a better fit. OK, nits out of the way, I should say that the service was excellent and the food was just fabulous - as good as the best in Santa Fe and most of the US. We started out with a Petite Herb salad which, interestingly enough, was served almost focaccia-style, on a piece of delicious toasted artisanal bread with a creamy goat cheese and some carrot foam. Dee-lish. On to a perfectly-cooked foie gras with choke-cherry compote. I don't really know what choke-cherries are, but they're a great match for the foie. We paired that with a nice glass of Sauternes. Although we didn't request it, since we said that we would be sharing everything, the kitchen split all of our courses onto two artistically-presented plates and even split our shared glass of Sauternes into two glasses. For the main dish, we decided to try both the Kurobota pork and the Halibut. Both were cooked to perfection and seasoned delicately and sufficiently. Paired with a glass of Rodney Strong Pinot Noir and a Kim Crawford Sauvignon Blanc, we were happy puppies. Too full for dessert, we just enjoyed a cup of coffee as we gathered in the beautiful view around us and agreed that we would definitely be back to Baleen again.

Had a couple of meals here during a busy stay at the hotel. The service was wonderful, the food was good but could use some small improvements. Here is what we had: Breakfast: Fruit Crepes - really yummy and beautiful presentation. My daughter loved them. Lox and Bagel Plate - fresh and delicious, my husband enjoyed the green chile cream cheese too. My daughter loved the mound of capers. Eggs Benedict - I should have ordered this without the ham as I'm not a huge ham lover. I could imagine someone who loves him being really delighted it was very flavorful so it made it overpowering for me. My eggs were cooked too much when they first came out but the gracious server took them back and returned with a new and perfectly poached plate. Lunch: I have lunch with quite a few people. Two of us ordered the burger medium rare and both felt it was overcooked. Other people ordered a Caesar salad with chicken and were very pleased. My daughter was not keen on the toasted PB&J. She wants me to add that there was too much peanut butter. The dessert was the highlight for me. We have the orange chocolate cake and it was really fabulous in fact everything on the plate was really great. Again the service made up for any shortcomings in food preparation. I almost forgot, I also had the carrot, chorizo soup which was quite good!

The wait staff here is incredible. I showed up 20 minutes past closing and they still helped me with my carry out order. The food was great particularly the sea bass with risotto.

Had a business meal there with a fairly large group - as a result we had a limited menu of selections. Here's what I had: 1) Bone Marrow - it was reasonably well done, although for the amount of marrow on the plate the lone crostini wasn't really enough. Definitely wasn't appealing to several members of our group who didn't even touch it, but for first course we weren't even given an option for something different. 2) Chilled Asparagus and Endive Salad - As a whole this was pretty terrible - it tasted of bitter stacked upon bitter - half the plate was a huge chunk of charred endive sitting on a bed of shredded red cabbage. There was a single raspberry and blackberry, and it was dressed with a fruity vinaigrette, but neither were anywhere near sweet enough to even come close to balancing the bitterness. There were a couple bits of bacon and two pieces of asparagus that were actually tasty, but which felt like they belonged on an entirely different plate. I absolutely do not understand the thought process behind this mess of a dish. 3) Prime New York Strip Steak w/ Roasted Potatoes - This was a travesty and the main driver for my 2-star rating. For starters, I ordered mine med-rare and got med-well - ruining what should have been an amazing piece of prime meat. If we weren't in a group I would have absolutely sent this back, which is something I very rarely do. The steak was woefully underseasoned, to the extent that I actually had to add salt from the table shaker. There was a large chunk of gristle still attached, and not all of the fat had rendered so I found myself having to separate the edible from inedible parts. This is not what anybody should accept or expect from a "prime" steak served as part of a $65 dinner. 4) Mango Terrine with Basil Ice Cream - The terrine itself was good but not great - it was very one-note and needed something extra. The basil ice cream on the side was clearly supposed to be that "extra" bit, but it simply wasn't very good. I enjoy a bit of herbiness in desserts if done right, but this was bitter with an unpleasant aftertaste, making it not really enjoyable to eat. The other entrees were a lamb T-bone that was so tough everybody who ordered it noted how hard it was to cut through even with a steak knife and a Chilean sea bass over risotto, where both fish and rice were overcooked - the risotto itself had a "gloopy" texture. The service was lacking as well - the waiter passed over one member at our table's drink order, and when I asked if they had any ciders he said no but then mentioned he could bring me a non-alcoholic beer (???) instead. I ended up getting a coffee with dinner, asked the maitre'd for sugar, and he finally brought it a half hour later. At the price they charged this was pretty disappointing and not what I expected. They were clearly using quality ingredients, but just not cooking, seasoning, or balancing them properly. I would not go back, and would not recommend this place for large groups.

!2 people had lunch there. Service very slow and not attentive. Fried chicken was dried out, way to much garlic. Salad was limp and unappealing. Cheese burger tasted medicinal. Setting lovely. Overpriced.none of us would return[were local]

Had a terrible lunch experience at this restaurant. Service was very poor (our waiter disappeared & both of our orders came out wrong initially) but what really irked me was the quality of the dishes. My mom ordered the croissant BLT with tortilla soup & I ordered the spinach salad. Both were expensive, and the presentation and overall quality of the food was just.... Cheap. Salad was plain piled spinach with pine nuts and some bright orange shaved cheddar cheese, & the BLT was dry as a bone with some over-cooked bacon and a wilting leaf of iceberg lettuce. Just a sad meal overall, which ended up costing us over $50 (we each had one drink). Don't waste your money here. The food is definitely not worth it.

I had a great night here with some co-workers and friends. The service was great, the waiter was very attentive. My only issue was how salty the food was. I ordered the flank steak and it was really delicious but very salty. By the middle of dinner I couldn't have anymore because it was so salty. If the seasoning got a recheck this dining experience could be one of the greats.

Beautiful place! We visited Luminaria during breakfast, brunch and dinner service. Excellent service provided by restaurant servers Carlos (breakfast) and Juan ( dinner). From the moment I arrived on all occasions, we were greeted by attentive hostesses, such as Yadira. We also appreciated the attentive and interactive food runners, such as Julian. We will return!

Oh boy, this was our second visit to this dining establishment . Our first visit was really great but it was over one year ago. This experience was really bad. We had a reservation and when we walked in beside the fact that it took almost 5 minutes to be recognized the hostess acted as if we were disturbing her. She then took us to a table in the direct sun. This would never work since sundown was an hour and a half away. When we asked for shady seating she was so very rude. Additionally and disturbingly she also was wearing see through tights that showed her thong unders, red by the way. Wow ... OK, now to the food service. Our waitress was nice enough but she did not know the menu. Her descriptions of the food were rehearsed and when questioned about ingredients she had no answers...I can't tell if this was because of her command of the English language or her lack of professionalism. She also did not know what a Champagne cocktail was...huh? By the way, by now the hostess has seated two other couples in the sunny seats. They are wearing sunglasses and holding their hands up over their faces to block the sun. The three tables next to us in the shade are vacant and never fill the entire time we are there. Out comes the food we ordered. The Pork Belly serving was enormous. Four large squares. Way too much for one appetizer. It would have been nice if we had known that at the time we ordered because I had the Apple Soup..delicious...but might have passed and split the Pork with my husband. The steaks we had were not seasoned at all. Plopped on the plate simply seared. Served with gross mushrooms and soggy potatoes in a way too floury sauce. A five year old can cook meat like this ... and it was tough, dry and tasteless. The dessert of maple cream brulee was amazingly good. We decided that it was likely made off premises given the differential between the meal and the dessert. I still can't get the imageof the hostess wandering around stomach hanging out of her shirt talking to all the staff and not recognizing customers with respect. What a shame.

Def. A diff. Chef....ate dinner here last night. One waiter, ten tables! One table was being given special treatment while others waited for wine etc..... Never good. Esp. Since I'm writing an article for 5280 on Sante Fe.. Juan was super nice, but he's also the bartender and sole waiter. They should have been comping wine. Also, on the chef side.....way too few veggies. I had gorgeous scallops, huge, with a great fritta of sorts, and three green peas in shells. Really. He needs to adjust to a slightly more balanced plate.

Superb service and delicious and beautifully presented dishes. We tried the lobster/crab enchiladas, the carrot/ginger soup and a few red wines from their short but adequate wine list. Lunch is a narrow menu so be flexible. Ambiance is lovely.

We ate on a Thursday evening, and it was pretty dead (only two other couples in the whole place). I was a little worried, but then the food arrived and it was superb. They had a secret special if you said the word "succulent" you would get a free appetizer - which was the duck crepe/enchilada. It was very, very good! My husband ordered the steak with egg on the top, and he devoured it. I had the seafood dish with mussels and prawns, and the flavor was incredible. The portion, though, was too big, and I could barely finish. The best part was the chocolate desert - it was mouth watering good, if you are a chocolate lover. I was SO FULL, but made room for the delicious desert. Although it was a slow evening, the service was exceptional. (Full disclosure: I think I picked up a food bug from the seafood dish, and have had stomach issues since that meal.... BUT, I would go back! I would just order something else. The flavor was outstanding in everything we ordered.). Nice restaurant. AND, although some have complained about the interior design style - for me, I fell in love with the modern decor. It was a chic place!

Come here for a sunday brunch on the beautiful patio and you won't regret it. The food here is upscale with prices to match but it is a lovely way to experience downtown Santa Fe. Got here at 11am before the church crowd arrived. We were seated and had some strong coffee while deciding what to eat. I got a huge plate of 3 breakfast tacos and a plate of fresh fruit. My husband had an enormous breakfast burrito. Both were delicious and we took our time eating while enjoying the people watching from the patio.

We ate there for Christmas Eve dinner-fixed menu. We don't mind paying top dollar, but the food was mediocre at best. The worst part however was the service. Our waiter"accidentally" charged us for a bottle of wine priced $100 more than the bottle we had selected. While he corrected the bill, I suspect he thought that because our party was seen as having a good time, he thought he could get away with this. I expect more from a restaurant of this caliber.

I spent three nights in Santa Fe and did something unheard of for me. I ate at the same restaurant two nights in a row! Luminaria is a visually stunning restaurant. The cocktails are absolutely delicious. The margaritas and sage cocktail in particular were yummy! The wine was at a perfect temp. The food is out of this world! I tried multiple items including dessert and nothing disappointed. Eat here!

Bring your epi pen!,, After telling the waitress about my wifes food allergies, and assurances that thy ould ork with us..most good restaurnts in Santa Fe will by the way...she took the allergy list twice back to consult with the chef...$ 36 bucks for lamb chops...ok..after a while..The room got very very cold..they brought her a shawl..me nothing...Waitress came out eventually and said..they put an allergen on top of the chops...but didnt think it was touching...ok to scrape it off? She said...oh my..well ok....then after delivering the chops..and after a few minutes of eating...my wife asked about the added sauce?...the waitress went to the kitchen and came back sying..you might not want to eat too much of that sauce!..we left hoping we didnt have to go to the hospital...geez..

The food was excellent. The bread was delicious and had been baked that day (in fact they brought muffins to our table straight from the oven). The tortilla soup lived up to the hype and has a unique presentation. We each shared the duck, lamb, chicken and tofu. They were all excellent, though the tofu stood out the most. Their desserts were also excellent. We shared all four of the desserts. I loved the Torta Misu (better than most tiramisu I've had), though the others seemed to prefer the Frozen Sabayan (it was very sweet). If the weather is at all compatible, SIT ON THE PATIO. The patio is the spot to be. We'll be back.

A beautiful restaurant with indoor and outdoor seating a couple blocks from the Plaza. Pricey though, so expect to pay around $50+/person just for an evening meal, not including drinks, unless you dine before 6:30 PM where they have a prix fixe menu. The staff was professional and accommodating. I started out with the New Mexico Goat Cheese Polenta Fries Caramelized Onion Tomato Compote for $11. Polenta is ground corn and they shaped it into fries. Nothing special except for the goat cheese. Would not order it again. For the entree I had the Grilled Harris Ranch Beef Tenderloin Roasted Pepper Ranchero Sauce, Grilled Spanish Onions and Poblano Chile for $39. It was charbroiled or burnt on the outer layer which I had to cut off otherwise that's all I tasted. Really a shame to destroy a piece of quality meat like that. May have been a 4 ounce cut, pretty small, especially when you are dissecting the burnt parts off. I ordered it medium rare and it was more rare then medium. It was served with no sides for $39. Sides are extra. $7 for mashed potatoes. How much does a dollop of mashed potatoes cost, or some broccoli? Had a taste of the grilled Caesar salad and it was nice. Never had grilled salad before. Had a taste of the seafood Paella and thought it to be a bit bland. My sister-in-law loved the Tortilla soup. Overall I was very disappointed with the meal, especially when you are paying so much, you expect the best, especially after reading such glowing reviews. The total bill was $233 for a party of 5, including 1 child, not including tip. All in all, the location and ambience are great, but wouldn't say I would return if I am not guaranteed tasty food at a fair value. Next time I am I'm Santa Fe, I will spend my $ at another restaurant.

This review is for the "Early Dinner Menu aka "Cena Pronto" at the Luminaria, which is a great deal only from 5-630pm :) Restaurant has indoor and outdoor seating, but since since it was the early evening and nice weather, we decided to get seated in the patio. The bread basket here was probably one of the best I've had, comparing to Gary Danko. Mix of muffins, rye bread and a biscotti-like thing with pumpkin seeds.. all needless to say, delicious. Upon chef's compliments, my mom and I were brought a bite Shiitake Ravioli. For appetizers, we tried the Ancho Pirogue, and Green Goddess Ceasar. A+. For the main, we went for the Organic Baby Golden Beets, Blue Corn Crusted Idaho Ruby Trout. A+. Desert was interesting -- the seasonal fresh berries with mascarpone came in a martini glass and was fresh & yummy, but the red chile creme caramel was strange..it wasn't really fit to my taste. I tried to savor it but chile and caramel just don't go well together. Service was great too! Attentive staff. We ordered champagne and the waitress always made sure to fill up our glasses.

Cena pronto 3 course prix fixe dinner for $29 is a great value Beautiful outdoor (covered) patio seating w/adobe oven Excellent wine, sangria, & beer selection; full bar 3 types of delicious house bread (chili pumpkin seek biscotti, blue corn muffin) w/salted butter Recommendation: fantastic chipotle chicken soup Nice leeks in ravioli Deadly desserts; try the chocolate chili cheesecake Complimentary amuse bouche & chocolate Great food service by Jae & Melissa (all staff at the Inn at Loretto are great) Validated valet parking We ate here twice because it was so good

Best paella ever. On our culinary tour of Santa Fe, we ended up here after reading the great reviews (thanks fellow yelpers) and doing a walk by of the hotel and nearby chapel. The restaurant has a nice ambiance. Cozy while still remaining spacious. We started with the garlic shrimp and chorizo and then for dinner I ordered the Santa Fean paella. Delicious and a bit different from typical paellas I've had and made... more saucy, less dry. More proteins then rice. The perfect serving plus a little bit to share with a dinner mate. Kind of a geriatric crowd on this given evening, I'm not sure if that's the norm. Unfortunately I had to sit through a very loud, very uncomfortable conversation from the adjoining table. No avoiding it. Service was fine... no complaints except our waitress was verging on overly friendly to the point of quasi-awkwardness. Prices were fairly average for upper scale New Mexican dining and no trouble getting a reservation from Open Table the day before. Highly recommend!

My experience was the same as reviewers like Nancy: poor service (waiting, waiting, waiting....), including the completely bored hostess. We also waited 15 minutes to be seated, despite having a reservation. The food was fine, but as others mention, nothing noteworthy and not worth the marked up prices. Santa Fe is a haven for wonderful restaurants; don't waste your money and time (both of which Luminaria will strip you of) here.

I just had dinner here tonight, first I want to compliment our server Ruta. She was amazing. Professional, kind, knew the menu and was checking constantly, we were offered champagne and it was to celebrate my birthday, we then had the blue corn crepe with duck confit. Our other appetizer was the shrimp and chorizo, it was sinful and perfectly seasoned, lots of garlic, we shared the evening special of the 16 oz. bone in rib eye with mashed potatoes and asparagus, the kitchen was asked to split it in advance and they forgot but were able to adjust quickly we ordered the steak rare and it was perfect. I think 4 asparagus total which equals two each was a little on the skimpy side. We ordered a side of spinach with pine cuts and golden raisins and it was very good, we ordered a dessert wine and the chocolate molten cake, again delicious but the ice cream on top was half melted and a tiny amount, I also had the pear maritini, it was very good, all in all it was a wonderful dinner, they even had rose petals on the table to help in my celebration. A wonderful dinner with terrific service, I would eat here again.

Outrageous and amateurish. I still can't believe I paid $150 to be PUNISHED. We just had Thanksgiving dinner there. They put us at a drafty table. This is Santa Fe in the winter so I expect some draft, but I was wearing my outdoor jacket at the table and none of the wait staff said anything. Putting that table there in the draft was such a fundamental error, that whoever did it does not belong in the restaurant business. For appetizers we had the fried oysters and the tuna, The oysters are to die for. If you want to try it, just go order it at the bar. Don't eat dinner there. For entrees we had the turkey dinner and the trout. Unremarkable. For dessert we had a hazelnut thing and a pecan thing. The pecan thing was thick with chewy crust, like cardboard. After I told them that they needed to retire the table because it was too drafty, they adjusted my bill by 20%. Big deal. They also charged us $11 for a glass of wine that was $10 on the menu. This is a little detail, but attention to details is the difference between good and great. This place is not even good. On top of all this, they painted the dining room in battleship gray, and then "decorated" it with hideous orange pillows. Outre. This is Santa Fe so I except some design intelligence.

We went here the first night in Santa Fe and sat outside during the sunset. It was so tranquil! The place got busy fast, but service was still on par every step of the way (they must have seen the earlier year's review on slow service and beefed it up, because we felt very taken care of). Our waitress was very friendly, very professional, and made us feel right at home. There was even a solo guitarist, Matthew Andrae, playing really soothing melodies and singing with his beautiful voice. We had the Cena Pronto three course meal and it was delicious. The salmon was seared just right with the skin crispy and the meat a tender juicy pink. The chicken breast with potatoes was glazed very nicely. The only "boo" was the panda cotta. The consistency was too thick and not as flavorful as I thought it should be. A must try for couples, families and big gatherings!

One of the best meals we had on our New Mexico trip! This romantic restaurant is located inside the Inn at Loretto and is normally a pricey place, but we went for an early dinner and took advantage of their Cena Pronto menu (5pm-6:30pm). I had the salad, salmon, and panna cotta. My husband got the tortilla soup, chicken, and apple tart. He also chose the menu with the wine pairing, which he thoroughly enjoyed. The meal started off with a spread of breads and compound butter, including the MOST delicious blue corn bread. I'm still craving that tiny delicious corn bread. I probably could eat a dozen by myself! We had a lovely girl from Lithuaian serving us and another man from Guatemala - both were so attentive and lovely. We left full, giddy (from the wine), and happy that we got a 5 star meal at a 3 star price!

Man, I want to give this more than three stars, but when you peel back the beautiful patio setting at night, it's sadly average food bordering on plainly not good. Now add an expensive for what you get, it seemed like a mistake eating here. Good wine list...you will pay for it...but with 4 very different meals, we found very little to celebrate. Sorry, if you just feel the need to enjoy this patio...maybe try it for lunch.

Probably the best overall meal we had during our trip to Santa Fe. We made a reservation on Open Table and were sat immediately. The service was great and the table on the patio was really nice. Even with a very large birthday party taking up the entire main patio, servers regularly checked in with us and refiled our drinks. We started with an order of polenta fries which were okay. They could have used more of a kick. We both really enjoyed our entrees though. I had the seafood paella and my girlfriend had the grilled chicken. For dessert we had the nutterfinger cake which was just rich enough, though it could have used a few more sprinkles of the spicy peanuts. Dinner for two with a cocktail each was $150 including tax and tip for reference.

My wife and I were able to get a table for 2 at 5:45. We were looking forward to dinner since we were staying at the hotel and heard good things about the service and food. The service was slow. The waiter seemed more interested in the locals that were there for dinner. My wife had the tortilla soup and an arugula salad. The soup was spicy but good. I had a baby wedge salad and the roasted chicken. The salad was good but the chicken was over cooked and tough. A disappointing experience. We would not return.

Blue corn muffins with whipped butter literally melts in your mouth!!!!! Its expensive but the overall décor and presentation of the food is amazing! Kuddos to the Chef!

Baleen is no longer! The new name is---------. We just had Sunday brunch there and had a lovely table outside (shaded) with terrific service. That is the end of the compliments. I had a burger which had a very musty taste, cheese on it which I had not ordered, and obviously a frozen product without any seasoning. Another of our guests had the same opinion. Our goal was to try the new venue to make a reservation for the Christmas holidays. We will probably not return and opt for "The Compound" - "The Bull Ring" or even "La Fonda" for a pre-concert dinner.

Were seated at a table on the patio by a waiter, as the hostess was nowhere within sight. Only to have the hostess show up after some 15 minutes later and ask us to move from that table to one in the sun!!!! While the patio were we were seated was pretty deserted. Oh well...

A perfect place for Sunday brunch in the Inn at Loretto just off the Plaza. The decor is lovely inside and the patio is nice but too sunny for me. The menu has a great variety of imaginative choices, beautifully presented and a terrific bread basket. Service is generally excellent but there can be occasional gliches. One is never rushed and lingering over coffee is a nice way to start the day.

We were here 2 years ago and last year. The experience was so much better then. They didn't quite hit the mark this year. Was there a change in chefs? It used to more fabulous, at every meal. Now it's kind of meh. Disappointing.

This is a very, very nice restaurant next to the Loretto Chapel and associated with the Inn & Spa at Loretto. My wife and I had dinner after arriving at the hotel and dealing with some issues with the room (a whole other story). We were obviously stressed, Our waitress, Melissa, picked right up on that and brought us a champagne cocktail on the house. Took the stress level down about 10 notches right away! BTW, she was great throughout, offering tips to first time SF visitors, but not in an overbearing way. We sat on the patio under the stars - a beautiful September night, with background music from a guitarist/singer who was very good. We weren't super hungry, but had the Tortilla Soup (a must!) and shared a Salmon and risotto entree, which was ample. The deserts looked great, but we were stuffed and so she brought us some chocolate truffles, again complimentary. Overall, a very nice experience, terrific food, good wine selection, great service and a perfect atmosphere. Highly recommend that you try this restaurant during your visit to Santa Fe.

My mother and I were staying at the hotel and thought we would try the restaurant. First my mom went in person at 5pm to make a reservation for the next evening for dinner. It took a minimun of 15 minutes as the maitre d' was scattered and constantly taking calls, leaving her standing there. He would be talking to her and then the phone would ring. Instead of asking the person on the phone to hold he would help them, ignoring her and when he returned he'd forgotten where he was and would have to start over. The next day, we decided we wanted appetizers, rather than a full 3 course dinner, so we cancelled our reservation. When we went to just have apps, he first seated us outside. It was starting to get windy and chilly, so we asked if we could move inside, and he said it was fine. The minute we stepped foot back inside so he could seat us, his attention was moved to the phone and the other people arriving, leaving us standing there... again. After standing there for 15 minutes, he looks at us and says "right this way" but when we started to follow, he says "no, I was talking to them." Seriously?! That was the final straw, so we left. He should not be the first person customers should have contact with. The manager lady was there near the end and she didn't have anymore of a clue than the maitre d'.

Okay, my girlfriends and I are all locals and were looking for something new for our weekly happy hour. As their happy hour deals were not mentioned on their website, I called them to inquire. Well let me tell you, I have never had a stranger telephone conversation. I asked the woman if they had a happy hour. "Yes we do." I then had to ask the time. "5-6:30pm." I then had to ask what the specials were. She proceeded to tell me they had select beers, wines, champagne, blah blah blah, and spirits. I had to go on to ask the prices of the beers, wine, champagne, and spirits, and she stuttered through the answers. I then asked if they had food specials and she informed me they had a reverse happy hour from 9-10. Okaaaay that's not what I asked. She then asked me, "Why exactly are you calling? Are you a guest or is this for some other reason?" Really? Did my basic happy hour inquiry questions seem too pervasive or something? Why the hell else would I be asking these things? We're a bunch of poor chicks looking for a couple of cheap hours to get smashed and fill our bellies with bar food for chrissakes! Anyway, the attitude of arrogance and pretentiousness from a receptionist with a pseudo-Brit accent sways me to give this place one star without setting a foot through the door... Think we gals will stick with Agave!

Full disclosure - I normally don't eat where I sleep, at least for dinner. However, we gave Luminaria a shot and couldn't be happier. The service was great and the food fantastic. My wife had the short ribs, which were tender without being overcooked to mushiness. I had the Sea bass and would have licked the plate except it was in a bowl. Dessert was the Nutterbutter cake and an apple tart, and both were incredible. We ate at another local hot spot last night and while it was pretty good, it didn't measure up to Luminaria. The worst part is we are leaving tomorrow and may never be back. But if we were we would stay at the Loretto and eat multiple times at Luminaria

Luminaria is located @Inn and Spa at Loretto. We like to eat on the veranda. It's draped and tented with beautiful flowers & gorgeous lanterns & chandeliers. There's a soothing water fountain, as well. It's charming, romantic and casually sophisticated. Authentic Santa Fe. We started dinner with a variety of specialty breads. I had the filet mignon medallions with garlic mashed potatoes and asparagus with a glass of wine. Perfect! My husband ordered the Seafood Paella w/ a glass of wine. It was AMAZING!!!!! Beautiful presentation! We split the triple chocolate cake w/ chantilly cream sauce.......pure decadence ! We then headed to the lounge inside the hotel! Such a nice ending to a wonderful evening! Very Romantic! We also had breakfast here after checking out at The Inn. We both ordered the Breakfast Burrito. Wonderful!!! Luminaria is our favorite "fine dining" restaurant in Santa Fe. Thanks, Chef! 'Till we meet again.

Luminaria has amazing tortilla soup. On my first visit, I enjoyed the soup, chicken wonton appetizer, and the chicken entree with asparagus and fingerling potatoes. On my second visit, I opted for two bowls of the tortilla soup and nothing else and didn't regret it. Skip the corn soup and the chocolate cake dessert. Those were unimpressive. Luminaria's outdoor patio is beautiful and the ambience is great, but if you go around sunset, be sure you get a table where the sun won't be shining in your eyes, since their sun shades don't cover all the tables.

While the setting was incredibly romantic and the location was second to none (we were staying at the Inn so all we had to do was stumble back upstairs to our room), the experience was less than desirable. There was one actual server for the entire patio area and then about four to five back server assistants. She took our order and came back with the appetizer and drinks in a timely fashion. That's where the timeliness ends. Dinner came out fairly slowly but I didn't mind the wait. What I did mind is that it wasn't until we had finished dinner and started on dessert that she came back and asked if we wanted something more to drink. I know for a fact that restaurants make the majority of their profit by sellng alcohol and they could have made a lot more off of us if they had come by more frequently.

Waste of time. Completely inefficient bar and service. Wasted 20 minutes just waiting on our drinks. Once the drinks were served, my white white wine was warm. We walked out....Go to Geronimo Restaurant instead.

I made a reservation for 9:00 pm. The confirmation was delivered and it said there was complimentary valet. We arrived at 9 and there was no valet so I called the restaurant and they told me that the restaurant was closed and that they close at 9 pm. I explained the parking situation and the girl said she was going to check to see if we could still come in. At 9:15 someone completely different got on the phone and asked of they could help me. I told them that I had been on hold for quite some time while I was waiting to hear whether or not that they would take us. The woman said that it was 9:15 and they would not take us and did not believe that there was no valet. I told her that the other person sent one out to us. Why would they have 9:00 reservations if they close at 9? Terrible!!!!! Terrible !!!!!

Things did not portend well from the outset. The hostess who seated us was bored to the point of muteness. In a dining room that was, at best, half full, it was impossible to receive service. We poured our own bottle of wine all evening. Empty dishes remained in situ. The salad was nowhere near what it was represented to be. Little more than uninspired chopped romaine with a dry stick of some type of bread. Thankfully, the entrees of ono and salmon were palatable. Perhaps the oddest and most disturbing part of the evening was the cleaning woman who defiantly blocked restroom access. At 8:15 pm?? There are many many wonderful restaurants in Santa Fe. Save your money for one other than this one.

We went here to celebrate our anniversary, albeit a little late (it was in January). Needless to say, with just a very slight mention of it to our server - Melissa - suddenly rose petals appeared on the table........very nice touch. We were seated in a rather "middle-of-the-room" table - but again our Melissa suggested we move to one of the corner booths.....outstanding! We started off with some New Mexican sparkling - Gruet - not bad. For the appetizer and salad, we decided to split - and glad we did - portions were very large (in my opinion)......we started with the garlic shrimp....awesome......followed that with the heirloom salad - the buttermilk blue cheese dressing was killer yum-o. For the entrees, I am a huge meat and potatoes fan - so when Melissa told us of that nights special rib-eye with plain ol' mashed potatoes and broccolini.....how could I say no........and I was oh so glad I said yes.....absolutely mouthwatering melting good. My other half had the special fish that evening,,,,,,,a salmon with some amazing pepper-infused spaetzle.....OMG was it delicious......we were envisioning mixing it in with eggs of a morning......unfortunately, we ate it all, so the dream ends there. We had a lovely dessert of a deconstructed chocolate mousse....wouldn't call it the greatest, but honestly after so much food, I think our taste-buds were numb. All in all, this place is a real gem.......the fairly "new" chef, Matt Ostrander, came to our table after dinner to inquire - which is ALWAYS a nice touch....and the sustainability factor of the restaurant is a big turn-on to us too.....we love the farm to table movement......and encourage it everywhere we dine.........to top it off, by the end of the evening our server had become our friend..........huge kudos to Melissa.........and don't forget, we'll be back for the next birthday celebration in July - patio here we come!

I don't know about dinner, but I came here for lunch three times over a two-week period, just because it was so good. The food was delicious and inventive - I had the santa fe salad, which was fresh and perfect for a fall day, the tortilla soup, which they pour out at your table so you can see how fresh and tasty the ingredients are, and the caesar salad, which was everything a caesar salad should be. Truth be told, the food was delicious, but I kept coming back for the ginger-peach iced tea and the pumpkin biscotti.

While the food at Luminaria was great, the service was pretty slow. I started my mother's day brunch with some special drink that was poured well enough that I couldn't really taste the liquor in it, but could feel it later. Then I moved on to the shrimp cocktail, one of the better ones in town, but still not as good as El Mason's version (which is spicier). The Lobster Eggs Benedict was wonderful, but I wasn't a fan of the potatoes that came with it. I think they would have been complimented by adding some black beans, but that's just me. The dessert I chose was the angelfood cake with strawberries, and it was also really good. I was too full to eat the whole thing tho... I wish we had been seated on the patio instead of the private guest room, but I guess the patio had been booked weeks in advance... Sigh. It did take forever to get our appetizers (like over an hour), but it seemed to go a little bit quicker once we finally got those on our table. The final price including drinks came to $53 per person...

Service was impeccable, food was amazing. They know how to take care of adults and children, my daughters loved it! Oh and don't even get me started on the dessert! Indulgent, wonderful flavor combinations and textures. I loved it!

I'm always weary of eating at restaurants in hotels, but when there are as many hotels as there are in central Santa Fe, you're bound to eat a hotel's restaurant at some point. Luckily for us, Luminaria was in our hotel and their menu looked very appetizing, especially on a cold spring night when we weren't in the mood to walk too far from our hotel for a good meal. Luminaria is certainly tucked away in a corner of the hotel, next to the Loretto Chapel, so you won't even realize you're eating at a hotel restaurant. Stepping inside, we saw decor that was a blend between urban modern and Santa Fe traditions, a lovely juxtaposition of harsh angles with soft desert colors. As for the service, the manager was eager to check in on us as we waited for the food and apologized profusely for what he called the delay in preparing our orders. Yet finally I told him we're quite used to European standards where it's at least an hour before you even place an order! So to keep us from growing restless, he brought us some steamed clams, an excellent appetizer before the explosion of flavors that awaited us. As a group, we ordered chicken, trout, and salmon. Each came with risotto, and some dishes came with Brussels sprouts and potatoes. Everything was very tasty and cooked to perfection, what you'd expect from a restaurant as classy as this one. For dessert, we moved to the lounge part of the hotel but still ordered from Luminaria's dessert menu, choosing the chocolate-dipped ice cream sandwiches. Absolute perfection, and at their "reverse happy hour" prices, not a bad deal, either! I would certainly love to try Santa Fe's other fine dining options, but Luminaria will always be there as a safe bet if I'm back in town on a cold day and don't feel like walking too far. Excellent food, beautiful restaurant, and attentive staff earn this one five stars.

Overall, we felt it was a rip off. All the trappings of fine dining and little of the delivery. We both ordered from the early evening prix fixe menu. We had the same thing. An amuse-bouche arrived before the first course: a pickle wrapped in salmon. I didn't eat mine, but my partner did not care for them. The first course was a Caesar salad. From the first bite I could sense this was not going to be a great meal. It was the blandest Caesar I have ever had - not at all like fine dining - just an ordinary salad from a lunch counter. The main course was a polenta lasagna. It was also bland, and little bit watery. The dessert was a chocolate cake with ice cream. The cake was dry, but otherwise, the dessert was good. The staff was good. Our waiter was Jay, and no complaints with the service.

Came here with a group of seven for some upscale Santa Fe fusion cuisine. Service was good, ambiance was nice, but overall I wasn't really wowed by anything in particular, and for the price I was expecting just that. At the table we shared a bottle of Robert Sinskey organic Merlot - which was very good, although marked up almost 250%. Foodwise, my boy and I split the Caesar with a blue corn crouton on top, (which tasted more like sweet biscuit than a crunchy crouton) but was decent. While they split the portions for our salad, they didn't for another pair at our table who were splitting which seemed a bit odd. For our main dish we split the 18 ounce rib-eye, which was cooked perfectly, and was far and away the best dish of the night. Our squash risotto side lacked flavor, as did the tamales or crab enchilada appetizer I sampled from the table. Again, for the price and my expectations, it wasn't bad but far from a home run. I was also hoping for a little more New Mexico experience, but I thought the menu was lacking in the fusion department. And while the decor was lovely inside, including nicely lit local art on the walls, the fact that the restaurant was situated in a hotel vs. its own space just added to my less-than-unique experience.

Luminaria was visited after a strong recommendation to check out a restaurant called Baleen. Turns out, Baleen had vacated about a year back, Luminaria taking its place. The waitress claimed that their new mentality and owner ship made the place "100x" (her quote) better than Baleen. Uh huh. It's actually quite a nice space, both inside and outside. The outside area ended up being about perfect, temperature wise, as the sun set on a fairly warm day. The menu wasn't incredibly exciting, but nice enough compared to the majority of Santa Fe restaurants, and there were definitely some tasty looking things there. The chicken wontons were really tasty, and pretty sizable for an appetizer, nicely crunchy with nice sauces. The corn soup was a bit of a let down, mushy and leaving a strange after taste. There was a strange piece of "meat" centered in the soup, which I actually thought was chicken, but it turned out to be some piece of bacon fat or something. In any case, it tasted nothing like bacon (I know and loves me some bacon). The tortilla soup is a much, much better route to go. The main pork entree was fine, albeit immediately forgettable. Nicely cooked with carrots and squash underneath, it just didn't really have a ton of flavor. The dessert, a "chocolate explosion" (gross) was not very exciting. The cake was some sort of odd gingerbread-like texture surrounding molten chocolate. The interesting bit was the truffle on the side, which was loaded with pop-rocks or something similar, as it kept actively "popping" in your mouth (popping! not the other thing) after you ate it. Luminaria's atmosphere is nice, although their food was a bit of a let down, especially considering the price. It's definitely one of the nicer establishments in Santa Fe, but compared to similarly priced establishments on the west coast, it doesn't really hold up.

after the horribleness that was the coyote cafe, luminaria was a breath of fresh air. great service, exquisite food and a prickly pear desert that defies description. my faith in santa cuisine was redeemed at this meal.

Very solid meal. I was brought a yummy shrimp with cocktail sauce as an amouse bouche. I was then brought some fantastic rosemary and olive bread with butter, some chile sauce, and some black salt. For my entree, I had the morel crusted rack of lamb. It was, in a word, amazing. I am glad I didn't order an entree so I didn't have to leave any part of this on my plate when I was done. The waitress suggested a Cabernet that paired perfectly with it. For dessert, I had the trio of creme brulee, which was good, but not great. I ordered from room service the next day (I was staying at the hotel, and room service is done by this restaurant) and got a chile burger and the poached pears for dessert. The burger was good (not as excellent as the lamb, but I guess that is to be expected) and the pears were okay. In both meals, the desserts were not as great as the main dishes. The service overall was very good. I would recommend this restaurant.

Ate here on a recent trip for a convention and very glad that we did. After checking out the menu online, we decided to arrive in time to order from the cena pronto menu which gave us a variety of tastes for a fixed price, and it was a wise choice. Matt Ostrander is Luminaria's new executive chef and his focus includes sustainable local products so the choices that night varied from the menu posted online, but all were fun and delicious. I especially liked the opportunity to try deconstructed apple pie (might have been tart, I didn't make notes) as I've been seeing a lot of deconstructed dishes on TV. He also sent out an amuse bouche to everyone in the dining room at the time - cute little pink things on top of crostini, very tasty. Overall, a good meal and enjoyable evening.

We stopped by for a quick bite to eat in the Living Room Lounge. The Luminaria restaurant is closed between 2pm and 5pm. We had dinner reservations at the Old House and didn't want to ruin our appetites. So we ordered light and what-we-thought were quick items to prepare. A delightful margarita came quickly and was quite good. But their award-winning tortilla soup (which tasted pretty darn good) along with the salads, chips/quacomole and buffalo sliders w/ fries did not come until I inquired. It was at least 45 minutes before we had our food. The soup was lukewarm and the fries (which also tasted good) were cold. We sent the fries back. Of course, that was disturbing, since we didn't have them to eat with the sliders. Bottomline: food and drinks pretty good. But the service necessitated a greatly-reduced gratuity. There weren't many patrons in the lounge at the time but it seemed like the wait staff were distracted with other duties.

My wife and I recently visited Sante Fe and stayed at Loretto Inn and Spa. We've been to Santa Fe before and eaten in many restaurants there... plain and fancy. It's too bad we waited until our last night to eat at Luminaria. It was the best meal we had in Sante Fe. And for a restaurant town, that's saying a lot. The risotto with spinach ,pecans and squash was rich and delicious. My wife proclaimed the tortilla soup the best she had ever had. The manager himself made our margaritas and they were fantastic. Better than Marias.

Had a business meeting at This restaurant today. Immediately I was greeted by valet who parked my car for me. The host walked me to my table with a smile. The setting was on the table was beautiful and water came quickly with the server asking what I wanted to drink. He also explained a special lunch sandwich. We ordered chips, salsa and fresh guacamole. I had the tortilla soup which was poured over avocado table side. This soup is award winning and I know why... Delicious! Then I had the chicken sandwich with melted cheese and a perfectly grilled pineapple with perfectly grilled bread. At this point I was looking for something to critique but everything was so delicious and the service was perfect, I was finding myself relaxed and craving the time I go back and run through this menu over time. I put my stamp on this restaurant! They have a Legacy Club in which members receive 20% off spa and restaurant... I signed up tonight!

Luminaria is our favorite date night restaurant. In a town with a tremendous high-end restaurant scene, Luminaria hangs with the best. The space used to be Baleen. I've been there three times since they opened this summer, and have been very pleased by the service (usually lacking in Santa Fe), and quality of food. I've had the wild boar, filet, and double-cut pork chop, with the filet being the best steak I've had in Santa Fe. My wife and I went for our anniversary, and our table was covered with rose petals and a card signed by all the staff members. All our friends that have also dined there have had great experiences as well. LOCALS: sign up for the Legacy club and get 20% dining and the spa!!

This place is attached to the Inn at Loretto at the corner of Alameda and Old Santa Fe Trail. They have great food and a small little bar with lots of staff attention, go here for a sporatic and off the cuff dinner choice, they have good food and satisfying drinks.
